Alliance Theatre hosts 24th annual Palefsky Collision Project

Courtesy Alliance Theatre The Alliance Theatre will host Atlanta-area teenagers this month for its annual Palefsky Collision Project Taking place through July the initiative tasks high school and post-secondary students with creating their own unique theatrical piece Drawing inspiration from Octavia E Butler s Parable of the Sower a fictional novel that delves into themes like group and belonging inequality and individual verses collective responsibility the Alliance Theatre explained the participants will undergo two weeks of workshops working with guest artists to help craft their story After their ideas have been finalized the students will take part in rehearsals during the third and final week to prepare for residents performances of their creative work which are slated to occur at the Woodruff Arts Center s Coca-Cola Stage on July and I am beyond thrilled to be a part of the Palefsky Collision Project legacy Working and creating with teens is one of my favorite types of work They are smart curious and so creative explained Sam Provenzano Alliance Theatre director and Palefsky Collision Project leader I cannot wait to see what the teens are drawn to in this text and hear what the ensemble has to say as they collide with Octavia E Butler s Parable of the Sower This piece seems like the perfect frame in which to view our current democracy with a focus on building up one s public Now in its th year the Palefsky Collision Project is an experience that the Alliance Theatre says gives students a unique theatrical experience and provides them with confidence in their talents strength for the future and power in their decisions Art expands minds heals hearts and saves lives it s saved mine countless times and this summer it could save us all mentioned Playwright Maya Lawrence the Alliance Theatre s resident artist and Allyship Operation director What s an ending world to those who ve inherited the task to create a new one Let the voices of teens from across our region be the beacon that beckons your belief that not only is better attainable but it is indeed on the way Tickets for the society performances are free of charge and can be reserved on the Alliance Theatre s website The post Alliance Theatre hosts th annual Palefsky Collision Project appeared first on Rough Draft Atlanta
